Tips for Cleaning and Disinfecting Your Two-Way Radios

Two-way radios are important communication devices. If they don’t work properly, your employees cannot share information from across the facility or work site. That’s why it’s crucial to stay up to date with two-way radio cleaning and disinfecting. Use the following tips to keep your communication devices in good condition.

Turn Off the Radio and Remove the Battery

This first step will prevent you from accidentally altering the settings while cleaning. Also, it will allow for a more thorough cleaning of each component.

Clean the Exterior With a Dry Microfiber Cloth

A dry microfiber cloth is best for gently cleaning the exterior surfaces of your device. Pay special attention to removing grime around the buttons, microphone, and speaker. This will help you make sure all commands and communications are ready to go when using the radio.

Use an Alcohol-Based Solution for Disinfecting

Next, it’s time to disinfect the radio. You will need another microfiber cloth and an alcohol-based solution of at least 70% isopropyl alcohol, also known as rubbing alcohol. Disinfect the entire radio to eliminate bacteria and lingering stains.

Remove Dust and Stains From the Battery

While the battery is still out, inspect it carefully. Use a dry cloth or cotton swabs to remove dust. If you see stains, use rubbing alcohol to disinfect the surface. This ensures your two-way radio will continue to have a great battery life.

Allow All Components to Dry Thoroughly Before Reassembling

Moisture can quickly dwindle the lifespan of your two-way radios. Putting the radios back together while its components are damp could cause internal damage. Use another dry cloth to wipe down the battery and other components so no moisture remains. Then, you can reassemble the clean and disinfected pieces.
